Fairy Portraits

As many of you know I have been assembling all of the necessary props, backgrounds and costumes to create magical fairy portraits for some time now.  It's been a slow process as I would not settle for good enough - everything had to be of the highest quality and that comes with a price tag.  Tonight I am finally going to run my first fairy session and I could not be any more excited if it was Christmas morning and Santa was in the house.  I expect there will be tweaks and hiccups as we arrange and re-arrange the set and add new props to flush things out, but all of the main components are in place - check back soon for sample pics.

Wishing all you beautiful mothers a happy mother's day - you deserve to be acknowledged and pampered for all the care and love you shower on your family day in and day out.  Hope you have a great day.

Bye Bye Bunny

Well, another Easter has come and gone and it was a great success.   We had a lot of fun at the studio chasing after baby chicks and keeping our curious bunny in line.  Thanks to all our regulars who came out once again for the Easter sessions and welcome to our new clients who visited us for the first time.  I hope you will all come back again and again.  The babies and children who grace our studio have a special place in my heart and I love seeing them grow and develop with each passing year.  To the Mom's and Dad's a big shout out for trusting Starlite Alley Studios to capture the special images which will be today's reality and tomorrow's memories.  Stay tuned for future specials to be offered throughout the year including Halloween and Christmas sessions.

Gearing Up for the Annual Easter Photo Sessions

Well another year has rolled around and we are once again excited to prepare for the annual Easter photo sessions with the baby chicks and bunnies.  It's been a long hard winter and we are ready for a breath of fresh air and the bright colours of spring to lift our spirits.  This year's set will feature a turquoise backdrop and a green grass carpet to create an beautiful spring pallet on which to showcase the children, the bunny and the baby chicks.

 

Halloween is just around the corner and it presents an opportunity to capture some fantastic images of mini monsters, goblins, fairies and princesses.  Little monkeys, zombies and witches are all part of the fun.  All ages can participate and live out their fantasies on this one special night of the year and here at Starlite Alley Studios we would love to see your creations and capture them in a photograph that will bring back memories of that special moment in time for years to come.  We'll make it easy for you - we are offering an introductory pricing on a Halloween mini session of only $9.95 + tax per person; no session fee.  We want to get to know you and hope that once you have made that initial contact we can establish a long term relationship capturing the special moments and people in your life.  Let us impress you with the quality of our work and the creative possibilities of boutique style photography.  Your mini session will last 15 to 20 minutes and you will receive your choice of one 8x10 professional quality print, or one 5x7 double sided photo card - a nice little memento of Halloween 2013.  We'll even throw in the digital file for sharing with friends and family - it doesn't get any better than that.  Booking now through to October 31st - please call 519-788-6047 to book your session as space will be limited.

2013 already? Where did the year go?

So clearly it's been too long since I posted here.  Fall is long since past, as is Christmas, New Year's and even January 2013.  Along comes February and we are swinging into Valentine mode - check out the cute backdrop we brought in special for this occasion.  If you ever wanted to have custom made valentines to hand out now is the time to take advantage of our current special.  We are offering a mini session valentine shoot for only $24.95 plus tax - session fee includes choice of one fully edited 8x10 print on archival quality photo paper or 20 custom designed mini valentine cards perfect to distribute to family and friends.  Will you be my valentine in 2013?

Tribute to Fall

I was feeling a bit down today because one of my favourite photographers whose blog I follow was offering a first class workshop in Paris France in November 2012 - and it was simply too expensive for me to attend.  The beauty of Paris would have to be for someone else, someone with thousands of dollars to spend on a two day workshop.  But, and I know that you should never start a sentence with but (bad grammar), but I came home after work tonight, walked around my property looking for the beauty in the fall colours and I found it!  Paris can wait, I have it all right here.  I just needed to open  my eyes.  The grass may be greener...but the leaves are redder and it doesn't get any better than that.

Farewell to Summer

Well another summer has come and gone.  The weather is turning much cooler, the sun sets earlier making the days shorter and the trees are turning colour as we move into fall.  I love summer - the long days, the warm temperatures, the light, oh that wonderful glowing sunlight, however I also love fall.  Born in late October I have always felt that fall was my season - I love the cool crisp nights and the rich colours as the trees turn from green to red and orange and gold.  In the summer my weakness is ice cream - particularly black cherry or maple walnut, but in the fall I like to sit with a cup of steaming hot green tea so yea! for fall - must healthier by far.  So farewell summer - here are a few of my favourite photos from the summer of 2012.

Happy summer everyone - hope you are all enjoying the great weather.  It's a great time for outdoor photo sessions so take advantage of our warm temperatures and the natural light of the sun to get some great family portraits to decorate your home and warm your heart.  In this picture I asked her to show me her eyes....and she took it very literally.

Haven't posted in a while so here is the updates from the last few weeks...things have been very busy both at home and at work - nothing new there.  I have been busy developing new concepts for future specials and hope to have something ready to present in the near future.  In the meantime I have been testing out my new backdrop from Denny's manufacturing, made it down to Henry's Digital Imaging show last month and finally received my new camera body from Vistek - I only waited two years and four months for this camera so to say how excited I was to receive it would be a gross understatement.  I've posted a few pics to highlight the past month.  Hope you like them.

Wescott provided photographers with an opportunity to try out their lighting equipment at the Henry's Digital Imagining Show in Toronto last month.  Photographers were encouraged to take their best shot and submit the edited images to compete for prizes.  This is one of my entires.

My beautiful granddaughter Trinity with her best friend Doris.  Too adorable....am loving this red backdrop from Denny's Manufacturing.

It's hard enough to get one 8 week old baby to pose for pictures but two at once....?  PLEASE!  Welcome to Elenor and Olivia - identical twin girls who flew in from Calgary and took time to stop by the studio for a quick photo shoot before heading back home.  Can't wait until their next visit so we can do it all over again.

I've also been working on some art pics, focusing mainly on floral arrangements using natural light, shallow depth of field and texture.  I hope to put together a few limited edition prints to sell at local craft shows but haven't gotten that far yet.  Need some encouragement so if you see something you like on my website, please let me know.

Easter Special 2012

First of all, a big thank you to everyone who took advantage of our Limited Edition Easter photo sessions this past weekend.  It was so much fun meeting everyone and watching the children interact with the baby bunnies and baby chicks.  It was a formula destined for success - as someone stated in a facebook post - baby everything is cute.  Well we had it all and the pictures are phenominal - can't wait to see the prints.

Starlite Alley picked a peck of baby chicks...

14 Baby chickens are currently residing in a bushel basket which is located in my claw foot bathtub in the downstairs washroom - they are under a heat lamp and happily pecking away at the chick starter food I lugged into the house - not sure but I think the bag is about 50 pounds.  I'm either crazy or just way too dedicated but omg they are so cute.  Can't wait to see the Easter pictures we are going to create with these adorable little babies.
